The incredible shrinking head. Before plastics came along, drum heads were made from calf skin. The only problem was that the head would shrink or expand on the drum depending on the weather. This meant that once you tuned the drum, the sound could change on you. Plastic heads that came in the 50’s now made it easier to keep drums in tune.

How many gigs should a drummer have played before he decides to teach drums?? I guess that varies but in my case how about thousands.
My point is that even a novice drummer teacher can open a drum book and show how a line of drum music is played, but it takes years on the band stand to really pass on the tips, tricks and techniques that are necessary for success.
