About Us Hana Akai, Owner and Stylist I have owned Akai Hair Design since the spring of 2004. My career in the Hair Industry started with an after-school job at Hollywood and Vine Hair salon in Ladner, B.C. At the age of 16, I began studying at the London School of Hairdressing and Aesthetics. By the age of 17, I had done apprenticeships at a number of Downtown Vancouver salons and was hired as a full time stylist at Raymond’s Hair salon in Richmond and later at Romano Hair Design. Before moving to Victoria, I had set up my own hairsalons, first in 'The Rubber Room’ jam spaces warehouse and later in my home.

Over the past 10 years since I have owned "Akai Hair Design" I have done training and worked in fashion shows in Japan, New York, Las Vegas, Seattle, throughout California and as well as locally throughout Vancouver Island. I have also worked on Bridal Fair fashion shows, competed in the Contessa competition, and completed advanced training from American Crew, L'Oreal Professional Advanced Color Training.

I am passionate about being involved in my community, and have performed two charity fashion shows. The first donated all profits to the Victoria Family Violence Society, while the second show went to support a local family whose teenage son was battling brain cancer.  I have an extreme passion for what I do and love the time I get to spend with my clients and creating the perfect look for them.
