The Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) is a flexible, registered, general-purpose savings vehicle that allows Canadians to earn tax-free investment income to more easily meet lifetime savings needs. As of January 1, 2013, Canadian residents, age 18 and older, can contribute up to $5,500 annually to a TFSA.

Students may choose to transfer remaining tuition credits to another individual, such as a parent, or spouse. The student cannot transfer any amount they carried forward in a previous year. The max amount they are allowed to transfer is $5,000 less the amount they needed to use to reduce their own tax owing. Only one person can claim this transfer from the student.

The Home Buyers' Plan (HBP) is a program that allows you to withdraw funds from your registered retirement savings plan (RRSPs) to buy or build a qualifying home for yourself or for a related person with a disability. You can withdraw up to $25,000 in a calendar year.
