 Using LinkedIn to Increase Search Rankings
Did you know that optimizing your LinkedIn profile is probably the most VITAL free things you can do when it comes to help boosting your online presence?
LinkedIn is a hugely powerful site in Google's eyes, and it is also one of a few social media sites that allows you to assign THREE spots that will pass along the optimization power of LinkedIn.
These inbound "do-follow" links are one of the cornerstones of Search Engine Optimization, and are also one of the toughest to acquire. What does this mean in ENGLISH? You have 3 extremely valuable "boosts" to give to parts of your online presence in search.
Here is how to do it...
- Login to your LinkedIn account. If you do not have one, you can select JOIN TODAY at the top right of your screen (you will have to provide your name, email and choose a password - LinkedIn has probably the easiest sign up process, and will walk you through absolutely everything you need to do to set up your account)
- Once you are logged in (or have done the initial set up of a new account) hover over the PROFILE option on the top left of your screen. You will now see an option to EDIT your profile.
- Click on EDIT CONTACT INFO (see #1)
- Click on the pencil beside Websites (see #2)
- You can now enter up to 3 links. When entering the three links, choose the OTHER option as this will let you name the link. Your name should include the name of your business and your main services (see #3)
- Finally, you have 2 left over links after your website, one that I would recommend giving a SEO boost is your ShopVictoria profile as this will help increase your overall local online presence (think of it as a double boost!!). To find your ShopVictoria profile, simply go to ShopVictoria.ca, search for your business and look for the profile name in the results (see #4 below)
- Facebook is another great alternative for your third link if you have a Facebook Business page.

Other Tips

If you have employees, encourage them to be on LinkedIn, list you as their current employer, and of course use those 3 links to help increase your website and online profiles on other sites overall rankings with Google.

Fill in your profile completely, LinkedIn is a great place for connecting with other local businesses and their owners. Let them know what you do and what makes your business unique!
